福島第一原子力発電所から出る高濃度汚染水の処理に使うポリ塩化ビニール製のホースから水漏れが２２件見つかっている問題で、東京電力は９日、ホース周辺にはえたイネ科の雑草のチガヤが原因と断定した。
ホースからは枯れたチガヤが見つかっている。東電は、ホースに欠陥がある可能性もあるとみて、ねじり、ひっぱりなどの実験を行ったが、破損は生じなかった。一方で、先端のとがったチガヤと同じ硬さの針を刺すと貫通。チガヤが原因と結論づけた。ホースは、汚染水を処理して冷却に再利用する「循環注水冷却システム」に使われ、全長４キロ・メートル。東電は再発防止のため、チガヤが貫通しないシートを地面に敷くなどの対策をとりたいとしている。
