「勉強しなかったこと」を後悔しているといっても「もっと勉強しておけば、もっと上の大学に入れたのに」とかそういう後悔をしているわけでもなく、「もっと学校の成績を良くしておけばよかった」とかそういう後悔とも違う。僕が後悔しているのが、あの多くの時間とエネルギーを持て余していた時期に、今自分が持っている様な知的関心を持たずして生きてしまったことを後悔しているのであろう。今現在は、世の中勉強したいこと、身に付けたいこと、知りたいことだらけだと思えるが、当時はそうではなかった。でも当時今の様に色々なことに関心を持っていたら、きっと若い人間特有の集中力でどっぷりに何かに浸かることができたであろう。そういう経験をもっとしておけばよかった、というのが僕がしている一番の後悔である。
